Growing up in a strict home as a young girl, moving to this country after the passing of my father, I was taught my options for a career included nursing or becoming a schoolteacher. I knew that teaching wasn’t my calling, so I started on my path in the medical field.

After spending a summer doing volunteer work at a hospital in Brooklyn N.Y., I found I wasn't feeling comfortable in any of the different medical departments I was exploring. However, I found peace and was immediately intrigued when entering the morgue.

I looked at each case and wondered, "what happened to them?” I wanted to know their story, who their family were, but most of all, I wanted to know how I could help. This was the start of my journey. I was excited, still unsure where it all would lead. But I knew I had a path.

After finishing high school and entering the work force, I found my way to Florida, where I was beginning to find my way and my own understanding of the death industry. It wasn’t an easy path; I didn’t have any family ties to the industry, and I was a young woman looking to enter a field predominantly run by men at the time.
